The Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) provides services to Texans who are disabled and to families with children who have developmental delays. The agency was created by House Bill 2292 of the 78th Texas Legislature as part of a major transformation of the state's health and human services system. DARS administers the programs previously provided by the Texas Rehabilitation Commission, the Commission for the Blind, the Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and the Interagency Council on Early Childhood Intervention.
